This is a question we commonly hear in initial consultations. Most people don’t know where to start and are afraid to contact an attorney.
If your marriage is in trouble, it is time to call an attorney. There is nothing to be afraid of when contacting our office. We are here to help you. If you are in a troubled marriage, here is what you need to consider:
The very first thing you must do has nothing to do with the law, it’s more of a personal thing.
You must decide if you want to stay in the relationship given the current conditions. Marriage counseling is successful in many marriages experiencing problems – however, too often I hear from clients that for one reason or another they have remained in a marriage that is clearly broken and that no efforts are being made to repair the same.
This is a very dangerous situation. It is important to consult with an attorney if you are in this situation. To learn more, call us at 724-836-3300, or complete our easy-to-use contact form today.
If your marriage is in trouble or you are considering a divorce, call my office. There is no obligation and no reason to fear; our consultations are 100% confidential.
My clients regularly tell me that it was very difficult for them to make that first call. After meeting with one of our divorce attorneys, they realize that there was no reason to be fearful. At our consults we are normally able to calm your fears and we are always able to explain both the procedures and possible issues involved in your case.
Simply being provided with information helps. You would not believe how much your grief and sleepless nights can be reduced by simply having a few questions answered by professionals.
After consultation, we work with you to decide whether it is appropriate to file now or if certain actions need to be taken before filing divorce. If it is the right time to file, a divorce complaint will be filed on your behalf.
If it is not, a legal separation may be the best option.
Keep in mind that just because a divorce complaint has been filed it doesn’t mean that you must get a divorce. A complaint can be withdrawn at any time.
After filing the divorce complaint, normally both parties will exchange the necessary financial information to divide marital assets. If your spouse is unwilling to voluntarily provide this information, we can use the court system in order to force the disclosure.
After the exchange, attempts are made to reach an agreement on the division of the assets as well as the other economic issues such as spousal support, alimony, and child support. If minor children are involved, we will also attempt to negotiate a child custody order.
If agreements cannot be reached on economic issues or child custody, hearings can be scheduled so that the court can decide these issues.
If you find yourself in a troubled marriage, you need to consult with an attorney. MAKE THE CALL – there is no reason not to.
You will feel better after talking with one of our divorce attorneys given that you will be fully informed as to exactly what will be happening if a divorce is filed, whether you should be filing the divorce, and what you need to be doing in order to protect yourself and your children.
There is no reason not to. Remember, the call and meeting are confidential. Our divorce attorneys can give you peace of mind. Call us now at 724-836-3300 or contact us online any time.
We are in your corner.
